Kalil Ashanty Sykes, also known as Akeel, is an independent Alternative Hip-Hop/Lofi-Rap artist known for his fresh and versatile sound with compelling delivery that weaves the tales of his constantly evolving art. Akeel was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland on July 16, 2004. He began producing as a way to escape from the traumatic events of his childhood and eventually grew to have a love for songwriting by turning his poetry into songs. Eventually, his poetry transformed into his first EP, released in his junior year of high school, as a way to relate to his peers who had similar traumatic pasts and as the introduction to his musical career. His musical identity was shaped by the calamity in his city, and now it has become his life purpose to help others through it.
